Stewart Bass will chase down runners in an effort to raise money for Badger Challenge
Madison, WI – Run Madtown is thrilled to announce a new tradition as part of the Twilight 5K, a Charity Chaser. The first athlete to chase down other 5K participants is Stewart Bass, he will be raising funds on behalf of the Badger Challenge. Bass will start the 5K after the final participants crosses the start line and try to pass as many athletes as possible. With every 5K athlete passed, Run Madtown will donate $1 to Badger Challenge.
Badger Challenge is a cancer fundraiser benefiting cancer research and patient treatment initiatives at the University of Wisconsin. Badger Challenge brings the community together to help fund the brightest minds and technologies at UW with the goal to turn more patients into survivors. Since its inception in 2016 they have raised $2.6 million and made incredible breakthroughs and discoveries in cancer research and patient treatment initiatives.
Bass is honored to serve as the charity chaser on behalf of Badger Challenge. Like so many, cancer has had a large impact on his life. Both of his grandmothers battled cancer; breast cancer and colon cancer, and his grandfather and uncle both have had skin cancer. “As a runner, I spend a lot of time outside in the sun, so my family history is important to keep in mind as I prepare for extended periods of time in the sun.”
“We are excited to have Stewart represent us at Run Madtown,” said Dr. Deric Wheeler, co-founder and Director of Badger Challenge. “The positive impact he’ll have means even more funds to give to cancer research so we can continue to turn more patients into survivors.”
Beth Salinger, Race Director for Run Madtown, said, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Badger Challenge and elevate the exposure and funds by adding a charity chaser this year. We recognize the impact cancer has on all of us, and the efforts Badger Challenge has on the fight against cancer is making a positive impact for our entire community.”
Run Madtown and Badger Challenge are recruiting companies and individuals to pledge a dollar amount for each runner Bass passes.
