The 38th running of the Long Beach Marathon returns the weekend of October 8-9, 2022
Long Beach, CA – August 31, 2022 – The Long Beach Marathon and Half Marathon today welcomed technical sports apparel company 2XU as a new community partner for the 2022 event. The partnership brings together one of Southern California’s premier fall road races with one of the world’s best kept secrets in performance compression, welcoming more than 15,000 runners to the oceanfront streets of downtown Long Beach the weekend of October 8-9, 2022.
“We are delighted to announce a new partnership with 2XU, a leader in developing performance compression apparel to help athletes of all abilities train, perform and recover,” said Phyllis Blanchard, Director of Partnerships for the marathon. “2XU is an upscale, luxury brand that loves running and loves races, and there’s no better race to run in Southern California this fall than the Long Beach Marathon or Half Marathon. I’m excited to lock arms and create a ‘fitter, healthier world’ together starting this October in Long Beach”
With a North American headquarters located in nearby El Segundo, 2XU’s leading compression apparel is the “right support for any sport” and is utilized by thousands of professional athletes, from world champion triathletes to NBA All Stars. Through the partnership with the Long Beach Marathon, the brand will provide community prize packages for all podium finishers in the marathon, half-marathon and 5k.
“We are extremely excited about our community partnership with the Long Beach Marathon,” said Nikki Beal, GM of 2XU North America. “It is extremely important to us to engage with consumers and to educate the community on our brand & the benefits of compression.”
The Long Beach Marathon has been one of the most popular and respected marathons in the country for going on thirty-eight years. The 26.2-mile scenic course showcases the city’s miles of sandy beaches and unique neighborhoods. Most importantly, the event annually provides a platform for dozens of local charities and non-profit organizations to raise money for their respective causes.
A two-day Fitness Expo, where runners pick up their race bib, explore interactive exhibitors, shop event merchandise kicks off race weekend on Friday, October 7th at the Long Beach Convention Center. The running gets started on Saturday morning with the Aquarium of the Pacific 5k, the perfect distance for runners of all abilities. Athletes can run the 5k with friends and family or use it as a shakeout run for Sunday’s races.
Race day begins with the Long Beach Marathon Bike Tour, a non-timed, non-competitive event which provides avid and leisure cyclists the opportunity to ride on the marathon’s closed roads to vehicular traffic. It is a safe, scenic, and fully closed 20-mile course. The bike tour features all the marathon weekend experience fun without the run, including a commemorative event shirt, finishers medal complimentary beer and more.
Both the marathon and half-marathon courses start and finish in downtown Long Beach, passing the Queen Mary, running along the beach path before heading back to Ocean Boulevard for its downhill finish. Event weekend concludes with a finish line festival and Michelob Ultra beer garden, where runners celebrate their accomplishments and enjoy live music to views of the waterfront.
