“I am thrilled to be part of one of the most exciting events ever to hit Salt Lake City!”, said Scott Kerr, Rock ’n’ Roll Salt Lake City Race Director. “We designed our course to start and finish in the heart and soul of the city and to capture our vibrant downtown area. Salt Lake’s abundantly wide streets are perfect to accommodate our anticipated 10,000+ participants. Heart pumping entertainment of all types will flood the course, at every mile. Crowds of enthusiastic spectators will align the course to cheer participants on and supply them with that extra boost of energy to cross the finish line.” Kerr stated, “No matter if you run, walk, wheel, volunteer or cheer – your involvement will make you a winner!”
The half marathon course offers runners a blend of Salt Lake City’s urban excitement and scenic mountain views. The 13.1-mile route starts and finishes at downtown’s Library Square Plaza, across from historical landmark City-County Building. The course takes runners through local neighborhoods and along the base of the towering Wasatch Mountains, before returning into the city center. The route passes iconic landmarks such as Utah’s State Capital, the mouth of City Creek Canyon and Memory Grove, the campus of University of Utah and site of the ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, and the unique 23-foot-tall, rainbow-colored humpback whale. A final loop around popular Liberty Park will cap off the run and bring runners to the finish line at Liberty Square. The event is a perfect opportunity to get a running tour of Salt Lake City as the route passes by iconic landmarks.
