CLEVELAND – (June 5, 2023) — The 2023 Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon announced today it had raised $500,000 for 29 partner organizations through its Race It Forward Charity Program. The Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon has helped raise nearly $4 million for local charitable organizations since its inception in 1977.
400 charity runners participated across the 5K, 10K, Half- and Full Marathon events during race weekend in May, spurring a total of 1,250 donations. The Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon’s top fundraising organization, The Concussion Legacy Foundation, met its goal of raising $400,000 to assist in its battle against Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), the degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans, and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma. Their fundraising drive was punctuated by Cleveland sports legend Bernie Kosar leading a team of runners past FirstEnergy Stadium in the marathon’s 5K race in support of the goal.
“We want to thank our charity partners and runners for supporting this race, community and the life changing work being done as a result of these donations,” said Race Director Ralph Staph. “Running can be a transformative activity for individual health, but the real power lies in what happens when we come together. We look forward to partnering with more organizations to expand our impact and give back to the Greater Cleveland community and beyond.”
The 47th Cleveland Marathon will welcome runners back to The Land for race weekend, May 18th-19th, 2024. Registration for all events opens soon.
