Participants rode through scenic Orange County, while raising funds for a foundation local to Irvine, Calif.
IRVINE, Calif. – The Tour de Saddleback returned for its annual event this past weekend, providing 302 participants the opportunity to ride through Orange County while raising over $1300 for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF). PCRF, headquartered locally in Irvine, Calif., raises funds to accelerate scientific breakthroughs that transform pediatric cancer care. Since 1982, PCRF has invested more than $58 million in pediatric cancer research, and has raised a large portion of its funds through events, like the Tour de Saddleback, while making an impact nationwide.
The Tour de Saddleback offered participants distances of 50, 35 and 15 miles to ride through seven different communities and cities of Orange County, including Laguna Hills, Santiago Canyon, Rancho Santa Margarita and Irvine. The ride started and finished in the heart of Orange County at Irvine Valley College.
The focus of the Tour de Saddleback is a noncompetitive, rules-of-the-road ride to provide participants a unique opportunity to enjoy the local area, while fundraising for a great cause.
“With this only being our second year of producing the Tour de Saddleback, I couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome,” said Mike Bone, President and CEO of Spectrum Sports Management, which produces the Tour de Saddleback. “It was amazing to see so many people enjoying the beauty of our community while raising funds for a great organization. Partnering with PCRF for this event has been a great experience, and I can’t wait to see what the future years have in store.”
After finishing the ride, participants continued their Tour de Saddleback and fundraising experience by enjoying the Post Ride Celebration. The celebration included a beer garden where participants 21 and older were provided one complimentary beer, and all additional beer sales went directly to PCRF. Participants also collected their race day t-shirts and medals which both showcase the iconic Tour de Saddleback logo.
Spectrum Sports Management, producer of the Tour de Saddleback, will also be hosting Bike the Coast on Nov. 2, 2024. Over 1600 participants took part in the ride last year, taking them through iconic beach towns along Highway 101, including Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar, before reaching the finish line in Oceanside. The ride included a variety of distances, which allowed for participation by all ages and experience levels. Participants can choose from multiple distances, including seven, 15, 25, 50 and 100 miles. Registration for Bike the Coast is open now.
