Eugene, OR — Mark your calendars for the weekend of April 30— May 1, 2022, when the Eugene Marathon will return to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. Registration is now open for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K and Kid’s Duck Dash, which are all set to finish on the track at the iconic Hayward Field.
“After three events and four years away, we can’t wait to get back to Hayward Field,” Race Director Ian Dobson said. “Providing our participants with the opportunity to run in the footsteps of legends is part of what makes the Eugene Marathon so special and there’s no better way to do that than crossing the finish line at Hayward Field.”
Hayward Field was under construction in the spring of 2019, so the Eugene Marathon reconfigured its course and moved the finish line to the 50-yard line at Autzen Stadium. In 2020, Autzen Stadium was once again the planned finish venue, but the event was forced to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, nearly 6,000 people from across the globe (all 50 states and 24 countries) participated in the first ever virtual Eugene Marathon.
“The last few years have presented one big challenge after another and our team responded with flexibility and ingenuity,” Dobson said. “Through it all, our main goal stayed the same: to motivate our community to get outside and run. We couldn’t do that in 2020 and we had to do it a little differently in 2021, so even just the thought of getting everyone back together in 2022 is really exciting. Returning to Hayward Field is icing on the cake.”
The final race courses for 2022 will be published this fall. Additionally, due to the popularity of the 2021 virtual race experience, the Eugene Marathon will provide a virtual option in 2022 for those who cannot travel or would prefer to do the race from home. Stay tuned for more announcements this fall regarding medals, courses and community partnerships.
