As race directors emerge from nearly two-years of the Covid-19 pandemic, Road Race Management is conducting its 9th Bi-annual Race Director’s Compensation Survey. Since first conducted in 2005, the survey has become the benchmark report on race director salaries and benefits.
“After fourteen years of steadily increasing salaries for the leaders of this country’s road races through the 2019 survey, the 2021 survey will provide the first glimpse of the impact of the pandemic on race director compensation. It is likely that it will provide some new baselines to build back from as the sport bounces back to normal,” said Road Race Management Editor and Publisher Phil Stewart.
In 2005, 38% of full and part time race directors working for for-profit companies and non-profit running clubs were still unpaid, while only 3% earned over $100,000 per year. By 2019 the figure for unpaid had dropped to 21.8% while the percentage earning over $100,000 per year had grown to 28.5% with 10.9% earning over $150,000.
Race directors are encouraged to participate in the survey which can be accessed at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YB3FJQ8
The deadline for completing the survey is December 15, 2021.
A summary of the key findings will be published in Road Race Management’s free E-News which is distributed to over 6,000 events and running clubs. Click here to sign up to receive the free E-News. A more detailed analysis will appear in the December issue of Road Race Management Newsletter.
