15th Annual Event Hosts Over 1100 Runners, Raises Funds for Local Animal Rescues
CARMEL, Ind. (Dec. 21, 2021) – Rob Mullet and Anne Clinton were crowned champions of The Donut 5K in Carmel, this past Saturday, Dec. 18. Mullet, a 2016 Olympian for Great Britain in the steeplechase, won the men’s category in a time of 14:51. Clinton, of Indianapolis, won the women’s division in a time of 18:11. Both are returning champions to the event.
The event was also the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) State Championship designation for the 5K distance.
Despite a chilly forecast and rain showers throughout the morning, nearly 1200 runners, walkers, animal lovers, and families completed the 15th annual event. In addition to awards and cash purse for fastest runners, awards were also given for age group awards, and fastest, largest, and smallest dog.
The Donut 5K is sponsored by Jack’s Donuts of Carmel, which provided more than 8,000 donut holes to runners on race day, and hosted at the Carmel Racquet Club, which provided a tremendous indoor space for pre and post race activities spread out over four indoor courts.
The event benefitted animal-related charities Sketchy Mutts & Underdogs, Pet Friendly Services of Indiana, and The Humane Society of Boone County. Race organizers held a silent auction and apparel sale during the event, with all proceeds being added to the donation. Total donations from all years of the Donut 5K are now approaching $100,000.
The Donut 5K is owned and operated by Carmel-based CRRG Events, producers of the Carmel Marathon Weekend. For more information visit www.donut5krun.com.
