Downtown Pittsburgh’s only night time road race will bring participants Downtown for a “a night at the races” on Friday, July 22
PITTSBURGH – Registration is now open for the 2022 Fleet Feet Liberty Mile, Downtown Pittsburgh’s only night time road race, scheduled for July 22. The one-mile road race showcases a variety of fitness levels, from first-time runners to Olympians, and is consistently named “one of America’s most iconic races” by Runners World.
“This race is short and sweet at just one mile, making it the perfect distance for runners and walkers of all speeds,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Participants will feel the thrill of nighttime running on Liberty Avenue, and then they can stick around to watch the country’s top milers, including Olympians and national champions, race to the finish with 4-minute miles.”
America’s fastest milers will compete for a prize purse of more than $28,000, one of the largest road mile prize purses in the country. The USATF-certified, U-shaped course starts on Penn Avenue in the heart of the Cultural District. Racers then make a turn onto 11th Street and another quick turn onto Liberty Avenue for the final stretch.
“Both Fleet Feet Pittsburgh and P3R share a passion for promoting the love of running, and the Liberty Mile enables us to connect with the community by bringing runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to Downtown Pittsburgh in celebration of our sport,” said Deb Doyle, operating partner of Fleet Feet Pittsburgh.
Participants are able to register at one of three levels: Red, White, or Blue, ranging in price from $20 to $35. The Blue level perks include a race day shirt, finisher’s medal and customizable bib just like the pros receive. More than 1,500 are expected to participate in the 2022 event.
The Fleet Feet Liberty Mile is the second event part of the 2022 #RUNwithP3R Challenge. Runners who complete any DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon event, the Fleet Feet Liberty Mile and the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler in 2022 will earn a bonus medal as part of the challenge.
