Race organizers confirm new record for winner Raymond Magut
CARMEL, Ind. (April 20, 2022) – Race organizers for the 2022 Carmel Marathon Weekend have concluded the Carmel Half Marathon Presented by Drewry Simmons Vornehm course record was broken by just 15 milliseconds on Saturday, April 9. Raymond Magut finished the 13.1-mile race with a gun time of 1:04:22.735 and is now confirmed as the new half marathon course record holder. The previous course record set by Jordan Kyle in 2021 had a gun time of 1:04:22.750.
Magut, originally from Kenya, currently trains in Lansing, Mich. with a group including the 2022 half marathon champion in the women’s division, Mary Munanu. Magut received a $300 bonus in addition to purse money for a new course record.
Kyle, a native of Fishers, Ind. now residing in Carmel, said he is planning to return to the 2023 Carmel Marathon Weekend in hopes of recapturing the course record for the half marathon.
With the original results showing a slim margin in regard to the course record, race officials and the event timing staff consulted with USA Track & Field’s (USATF) rulebook to determine the protocol for resolving ties. USTAF is the national governing body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States.
Including Magut’s confirmed record, five course records were broken at the 2022 Carmel Marathon Weekend. In addition, the race is now listed as the sixth top marathon to quality for the Boston Marathon, with 20.7 percent of finishers receiving a Boston-qualifier finishing time.
